Like others, I’d suggest 2 hours is enough, unless you want to do the woodland walk, in which case allow up to 3. The house is worth visiting for the small additional fee, and the best views and photos of the formal gardens are from the top of the old keep. You can do the house in 1/2 hour. It gets more crowded the later you go. We arrived around 11am in late June and queues and crowds were moderate.
