Nearly 100 parents, teachers, and students with Denver Public Schools spoke out during a public comment session Monday night in an effort to dissuade school board leaders from moving forward with a proposal to close and or restructure 10 schools in the district.

They described the proposed closures as “illogical,” “unethical,” “half-baked,” “discriminatory,” and “classist.”

Students and teachers in Denver demonstrated on Monday with a walk-out at the end of the school day. The demonstration was to protest proposed school closures in the Denver Public Schools district.

It was a heavy night for some Denver Public School families, who watched as seven schools across the district were listed for potential closure.

Students and teachers from West Middle School are planning a rally at 3:25 p.m. Monday to protest the closure of their school.

Students walked out of class Friday and marched to Denver Public Schools headquarters, where they chanted, “Keep your hands! Off our school!”
