Not even two weeks after Hurricane Helene swamped the Florida coastline, Milton has strengthened rapidly into a major hurricane on a path toward the state.

Hurricane Milton began its turn toward Florida on Tuesday still a powerful Category 4 hurricane with a forecast landfall near Tampa Bay and projected path that will cut through Central Florida.

Impacts will be felt miles from storm's center and Milton currently is predicted to become a Category 4 hurricane with 145-mph winds as it approaches the west coast of Florida. It could still be a hurricane by the time it reaches it reaches the Atlantic coast.
