Tropical Storm Sara has hit Central America with overwhelming rains and flooding. The storm's remnants could soak the Southeast.

With atmospheric steering currents in near total collapse, Sara has been essentially adrift while streaming a constant river of tropical moisture into the vulnerable countrysides with over 30 inches of rain so far in some areas.

As of the 4 p.m. advisory, Sara was a weakening tropical depression straddling the area between Mexico and Guatemala, according to the National Hurricane Center. The system is expected to move into the Gulf of Mexico in the next day but will dissipate at that point.

Tropical Storm Sara has started moving slightly faster after stalling over Honduras, drenching the northern coast of the Central American nation, swelling rivers and trapping some people at home.

Tropical Storm Sara may have fizzled out over the Yucatan Peninsula, but its remnants — combined with an approaching cold front — are forecast to bring the potential for heavy rain to North Florida.
