It would have been a perplexing thought to many if they were told ahead of the season that the Washington Capitals were the NHL's best team and Logan Thompson was one of its top goaltenders past the halfway point.

The Washington Capitals have re-signed goaltender Logan Thompson to a six-year, $35.1million contract extension, senior vice president and general manager Chris Patrick announced today. Thompson’s contract will carry an average annual value of $5.85 million.

Logan Thompson made 32 saves, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Dylan Strome and Aliaksei Protas scored goals, and the Washington Capitals beat the Calgary Flames 3-1.
