Interim coach Tim Brewster, a longtime assistant at various levels, became the Niners’ associate head coach before this season under Biff Poggi, who was fired Monday by athletic director Mike Hill — before the conclusion of his second year at the helm.

Charlotte fired football coach Biff Poggi on Monday. Tight ends coach/associate head coach Tim Brewster will be the interim coach for the final two games, and the school will immediately begin its search for a replacement.

Former Minnesota Golden Gophers head football coach Tim Brewster is reportedly leading another program. According to NBC Sports, the Charlotte 49ers on Monday fired head coach Biff Poggi and named Brewster the interim coach. Brewster, 64, was the associate head coach and tight ends coach this season.

Biff Poggi's time in Charlotte has come to an end. Charlotte fired football coach Poggi on Monday afternoon after less than two seasons with the program, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.  Tim Brewster will take over as the team's interim coach for the rest of the season.

Poggi compiled a 6-16 record during his tenure in Charlotte. The 49ers finished 2023 with a 3-9 record and are currently 3-7 with games against FAU and UAB remaining. Former SEC assistant Tim Brewster will serve as the interim HC.

Poggi was in his second season leading the team. He went 3-9 in 2023 and was off to a 3-6 start this season after battling a myriad of injuries early in the year. He took over the Charlotte program after serving on Jim Harbaugh's support staff at Michigan.
