Today is a FOX 26 Storm Alert Day in southeast Texas. Heavy rain will begin to move in midday with the heaviest rain expected later this afternoon into the evening. Models are showing 2 to 4 inches of rain possible in total and the highest amounts will likely be close to the coast.

Some flights that were scheduled to leave Dallas airports for Houston airports Thursday morning were canceled amid the snowy weather in North Texas. Aviation tracking company FlightAware shows live updates on the flight status from Dallas to Houston.

Brutal cold will open the door for a winter storm to take a somewhat unusual track through the South and create treacherous conditions.
