Google Sheets allows you to automate tasks using Google Apps Script, a JavaScript-based language. Create a Script : Go to Extensions > Apps Script to open the script editor.

Behind-the-scenes, Google Sheets is using WasmGC for faster code execution. This new web technology (which is an “ extension to the existing WebAssembly specification”) replaces JavaScript.

Google Docs, for instance has a full-featured built-in scripting language called Apps Script, that gives your full control of a document or spreadsheet with the help of a bit of Javascript.

Google also isn't done making improvements to Sheets. The company is currently working on ways to decrease the web app's initial load time and improve copy/paste and filter performance.
