The University of Rhode Island is mourning the loss of staff member Maureen McDermott, who was reportedly struck by a car on campus on November 6, 2024.

URI officials said in a letter to the school community that Maureen McDermott, the director of student involvement and the Memorial Union, succumbed to injuries Friday that she had sustained in a vehicle-pedestrian crash on the Kingston Campus earlier this month.

Maureen McDermott, who worked at URI for more than forty years, died nearly 10 days after being struck by a vehicle on the URI campus.
