The Chesapeake Health Department reported a case of rabies found in a raccoon recently. The Chesapeake Animal Services reported an incident that occurred on March 6 between a raccoon, dog and resident on Hazel Avenue in the Norfolk Highlands area of Chesapeake.

A raccoon in a Gastonia neighborhood tested positive for rabies, Gaston County officials say. On March 9, Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement received a call around 5:45 p.m., saying a dog had killed a raccoon in the 2200 block of Robinwood Road.

Health officials are urging Chesapeake residents to ensure all pets and livestock are current on rabies vaccinations.
