In a widely anticipated move, the Cowboys have announced the hiring of former Bears head coach Matt Eberflus as their defensive coordinator. He replaces Mike Zimmer, who lasted just one season in

Eberflus served as a Cowboys assistant coach under Jason Garrett for seven seasons. He joined the team as a linebackers coach with Rob Ryan as defensive coordinator, running a 3-4 scheme and remained when the Cowboys switched to a 4-3 under Monte Kiffin and Rod Marinelli.

In addition to Eberflus, the Cowboys hired former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Nick Sorensen as special teams coordinator, replacing John Fassel, who joined the Tennessee Titans after his contract expired. Sorensen previously worked with Schottenheimer in Seattle and Jacksonville.
