Another preseason game, another big performance by rookie sensation Matvei Michkov. After coming up empty in his preseason debut, he has notched goals in two straight games, including a pair in a 3-2 overtime win over the Boston Bruins at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday — and there wasn’t an empty-netter like his tally against the New York Islanders.

One of the biggest limiters of the Philadelphia Flyers’ upside over the past few seasons has been their power play. Finishing with the worst scoring efficiency in their last three campaigns, no franchise has ever had a man advantage so consistently in the dumps.

The Matvei Michkov hype train is rolling through Philadelphia ahead of next week’s start to the NHL regular season. Of course it is. Michkov is one of the highest-rated prospects in all of hockey and he has the potential to bring life to a Flyers team that hasn’t had much in recent years.

Michkov's transition to America has been eased somewhat with the Flyers' use of a steady translator — who sat with Michkov in the Phillies dugout before a recent first pitch — and playing with Russian teammates Egor Zamula and Ivan Fedotov.

After Bruins defenseman Billy Sweezey got into a scrum with Michkov, Couturier immediately defended the Flyers' top prospect and dropped the gloves. Couturier is not necessarily known for his fighting skills, but he handled himself well against the Bruins' 6-foot-2 defenseman.

For the first time in front of a Wells Fargo Center crowd, Matvei Michkov showed the skill and energy that's bringing so much promise to the Flyers.

Flyers management is doing its best to temper the high amounts of enthusiasm surrounding the arrival of Matvei Michkov. The 19-year-old, selected with the No. 7 pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, had 41 points (19 goals,
