A federal judge on Thursday might rule on whether or not the Trump administration lawfully deployed National Guard and Marine Corps troops to Los Angeles.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) announced Monday he's suing the Trump administration over the deployment of the U.S. Marines and the National Guard to Los Angeles protests. The big picture: President Trump and Newsom are embroiled in a simmering standoff over the response to the protest unrest that erupted last week over Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids.

Trump ignited a fight with Newsom after deploying thousands of National Guard troops and 700 Marines to Los Angeles to quell demonstrations protesting the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids across the city. Trump has lashed out at Newsom, suggesting earlier this week that the sitting governor should be arrested.
