Shares started out the week mixed in Asia after U.S. stocks fell to their worst loss since Election Day. Japan's Nikkei 225 index dropped 1% to 38,255.65 as the yen regained some strength against the U.

Shares retreated in Asia on Thursday after a lackluster finish on Wall Street following a report showing an uptick last month in inflation in the U.S.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 47 points, or 0.1%, and the Nasdaq composite slipped 0.3%. The bond market was also mixed after a report said the inflation that U.S. consumers felt last month was exactly as economists expected.
