Renowned Indian rocket propulsion expert and aerospace engineer Dr. V. Narayanan has been appointed the next chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). He holds experience in cryogenic propulsion systems and is mostly recognised for his noteworthy contributions to Indian space missions.

Dr V Narayanan, a propulsion expert with nearly 40 years of experience, has been appointed as ISRO Chairman and Secretary of the Department of Space. Succeeding S Somanath on 14 January 2025, Dr Narayanan has played a pivotal role in the development of indigenous cryogenic propulsion systems.

Born in 1964 in Melakattu village Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari District, Narayanan completed his early schooling in his hometown. He earned a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (DME) and an Associate Membership in Mechanical Engineering from the Institution of Engineers (AMIE).

Modi government has appointed V Narayanan as the new chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Secretary of the Department of Space. He will take over the office from S Somanath on January 14,

According to an official order from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Narayanan has been appointed to serve in these roles for the next two years.

Narayanan, currently head of an ISRO centre called Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), is set to succeed S. Somanath on 14 January & will be in office for next 2 years.

Dr. V Narayanan, a veteran scientist with 40 years at ISRO and expertise in rocket propulsion, will succeed S Somanath as ISRO chairman on January 14, 2025, for a two-year term. ISRO’s new chairman is an IIT-Kharagpur alumnus who has worked with ISRO for over 40 years.

V Narayanan, a distinguished scientist and director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre, has been appointed as the new Chairman of ISRO, succeeding S Somanath. With over three decades at ISRO, Narayanan played a pivotal role in developing India's cryogenic engine technology.
