An 8-year-old boy was dead Friday evening following a shooting in Newark, county prosecutors told NBC New York. Details of the shooting were limited, but officials from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said the young boy had died and that an adult male was also shot.

Newark resident Julius Gaines, 56, has been charged with murder and weapons offenses in connection with the fatal stabbing of East Orange resident Rodney Mayes, 56. The killing occurred in the ShopRite parking lot at 206 Springfield Avenue, after a verbal dispute between the individuals Monday evening, according to officials.

An eight-year-old boy was shot and killed in Newark, New Jersey, Friday evening. An adult male was also shot during the attack near Osborne Terrace near Yates Avenue around 5:30 p.m. Police are looking for the shooter. Video shows a large police presence at the scene.
