The Brutalist director Brady Corbet clarified how AI tools were used on the film during postproduction after social media outrage about the practice spread widely over the weekend. In a statement provided to Gold Derby,

Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones’s Hungarian dialogue in The Brutalist was enhanced using AI tools, according to the film’s editor Dávid Jancsó.

The director of “The Brutalist”, Brady Corbet, has been defending utilising AI since receiving hefty backlash for admitting to using the contentious tech in his film. He used AI to adjust leading actors Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones’ Hungarian dialect and generate specific images for the film’s ending.

The criticism directed at The Brutalist has also shone a light on Netflix's own Oscars hopeful, Emilia Pérez, a musical directed by Jacques Audiard about a cartel boss looking to retire and transition into living as a woman. In the movie, Karla Sofìa Gascón's singing voice was enhanced using AI.
