Bluesky’s launch of a verification system has raised a slew of questions among its user base from who will be picked — and why — to what outside organizations might be involved and whether the self-verification process will end?

Bluesky is introducing new ways to recognize genuine, verified accounts on the social media platform. According to an official update on Bluesky's blog, certain accounts will now get a blue checkmark next to their names.

“Bluesky will proactively verify authentic and notable accounts and display a blue check next to their names. Additionally, through our Trusted Verifiers feature, select independent organizations can verify accounts directly. Bluesky will review these verifications as well to ensure authenticity,” the company wrote.
