Microsoft has developed a new Quick Machine Recovery feature in light of the CrowdStrike incident that will enable IT admins to target fixes at machines remotely even when they’re unable to boot properly. Quick Machine Recovery leverages improvements to the Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE).

Microsoft is working on a new recovery mode for Windows that promises to prevent a repeat of the Crowdstrike outage that temporarily bricked millions of PCs back in July. At the company’s Ignite event, Microsoft introduced an upcoming feature called Quick Machine Recovery for corporate IT administrators who oversee fleets of Windows PCs at their companies.

In the wake of the CrowdStrike incident, Microsoft is now requiring security vendors participating in Microsoft Virus Initiative (MVI) to take certain steps to make security and reliability better. These include enhanced testing and response processes, as well as the safe deployment of updates on both Windows PCs and servers.
