Junior doctors from government hospitals across West Bengal, along with citizens, organised torch rallies on Sunday as part of an ongoing protest demanding justice for a woman trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

Today's hearing in the Supreme Court is anticipated to be crucial, as junior doctors have indicated that their decision to resume the ceasework protest will depend on the government's submission in the court.

Junior doctors and citizens in West Bengal held torch rallies demanding justice for the victim of the Kolkata rape-murder case and calling for improved security in hospitals.

It has almost been two months since the gruesome rape and murder of a trainee doctor of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, in the seminar hall during her night shift. An investigation in the case is underway and the CJI DY Chandrachud-led Supreme Court bench is scheduled to hear the Kolkata Rape and Murder Case today.

The renewed protests were also sparked after an alleged assault on three doctors and three nurses at Sagore Dutta Hospital.
