The Mountain West is adding Grand Canyon University as a full non-football member in 2026, the conference announced Friday. It is the latest addition for the MWC as it rebuilds following the pending departure of five schools to the similarly rebuilding Pac-12 in 2026.

Grand Canyon is joining the Mountain West by 2026 and spurning its previous commitment to the West Coast Conference, the university announced Friday. The move comes just months after GCU accepted an invitation from the WCC and announced it would be leaving the WAC in 2025.

The Mountain West Conference announced Friday that Grand Canyon University will join the league as the ninth member beginning July 1, 2026. The Antelopes do not have a football team, but will compete in 17 different sports in the Mountain West. Grand Canyon has won the Western Athletic Conference Commissioners Cup the past five seasons.
