Virginia Beach police on Sunday released images of the officers who were shot to death Friday night. Cameron Girvin and Christopher Reese were shot after a traffic stop by a man police identified as as 42-year-old John Lee McCoy III. Reese became a Virginia Bech officer in 2022; Girvin was sworn in as an officer in 2020.

The police department asked the public for patience as it works on the investigation and "grieve the loss of their own."

Law enforcement officials say two police officers in Virginia have been shot and killed during a traffic stop.

The officers spotted a car with expired licensed plates and ordered the driver to stop, the police said. The driver who opened fire was later found dead.
