A Volusia County family is in mourning after the death of their 8-year-old in a neighborhood dog attack. They spoke with Channel 9 to share their terrible loss and to call for justice. Volusia County deputies say Michael Millett was riding his bike with a friend Monday when he went to pet the dogs and they attacked.

An 8-year-old boy who died in what officials call a vicious dog attack is being remembered for his smart and adventurous personality.

Eyewitness News continues to follow all developments in a dog attack that killed an 8-year-old boy in Volusia County. Today, we asked animal services why the dogs weren’t immediately euthanized.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — An 8-year-old boy died after being attacked by two dogs in Volusia County. “This is a tragedy beyond comprehension, especially for those of us who are parents and grandparents," said Sheriff Mike Chitwood.

If the dog owner does not give the county permission, once the 10-day quarantine passes the county will euthanize both dogs.

Michael Millett, 8, died after two dogs bit him 12 times after he stopped to pet them while riding his bike in his neighborhood.
