Here is a look at this week’s High School on SI Top 10 Iowa high school girls basketball rankings by class for the week of Jan. 13: 1. Johnston (11-0) Previous rank: 1 Convincing wins over Waukee and Southeast Polk keep the Dragons moving right along.

Even in many places where girls’ basketball survives, it is struggling. Don Bosco is playing varsity basketball with an eight-player roster. Six of the eight are either freshmen or sophomores so there is no freshmen or JV team. Clarksville has a nine-player roster with three seniors. At most, there will only be six returning players’ next season.

If there were immediate standouts from Tuesday’s matchup, Waukee’s Emilie Sorensen and Ankeny’s Savannah Gage were those players. And despite playing for opposing programs, the two athletes share one attribute: Sorensen and Gage are the only seniors in their teams' starting lineups.
