Fort Myers City Council has a new member, and one incumbent barely squeaked by to retain his seat. Architect Diana Giraldo won the 14,605-person Ward 2 race to replace retiring Councilman Johnny Streets. She earned 2,388 or 56.03% of the votes, compared to Jacquelyn McMiller's 1,874 or 43.97%.

Portland voters were asked to select three new City Council candidates after incumbents chose not to seek a second term. And only one of the three school board seats on the ballot had multiple candidates.

Three incumbents are facing challengers this election cycle. Two newcomers are hoping to take over districts in North and West Austin.

Four candidates are running to fill two contested seats on the Fillmore City Council. The city approved the switch from at-large candidates to districts in December, and Districts 1, 2 and 5 are the first seats up for election this year.

The incumbents seeking re-election include Mayor Elizabeth "Liz" Becerra, Councilwoman Blanca Gomez, and Councilwoman Leslie Irving.
