A Navy medic who helped pull injured sailors from the oily waters of Pearl Harbor after the 1941 Japanese attack on the naval base has died at the age of 103.

The oldest living survivor of the Pearl Harbor attacks died Christmas morning. Warren “Red” Upton, of San Jose, California, was also the last living survivor of the USS Utah, which sank during Japanese attacks on the U.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (WPEC) — A Pearl Harbor survivor died Monday evening at his home in Tequesta, Florida, at the age of 103. Harry Chandler was just 20 years old when he served as a hospital corpsman during the infamous attack on Dec. 7, 1941.

Local Pearl Harbor attack survivor Harry Chandler passed away at his home in Tequesta Monday night at the age of 103.

Harry Chandler, who helped wounded servicemembers in the Pearl Harbor attack, died at age 103. He was from Holyoke and spent most of his adult life in South Hadley.

There were an estimated 87,000 military personnel on Oahu on the day of the attack, according to military historian J. Michael Wenger. After Upton’s death, there are only 15 still alive.

Harry Chandler was a Navy corpsman in Hawaii on Dec. 7, 1941, when Japan attacked the Pearl Harbor Navy base. He spent the day helping the injured.
