Created in 1973 by KRMG, the single-day event drew over 600 rafts, 4,500 participants, and 100,000 spectators at its peak.

Organizers say the annual Labor Day weekend event along the Arkansas River will not be held this year and that there are no plans to continue it.

The event is being sunsetted after returning just 10 years ago. The race originally started in 1973 and ended in 1991.
